In a sad state of affairs, Midnight Maid was vetted before this class 4 race at Taree Racetrack, as there were some concerns expressed towards her being in a fit state to run. She was passed clear to start. She was then pulled up at the 700mm mark after faltering, with a fractured left foreleg, and had to be euthanised on track, Taree 23rd of June 2003.
