This was a tragic ending to what was proving to be very good horse cut down in his prime. Having won two weeks earlier at Sandown he followed up at Flemington over 1700 metres with Craig Newitt on board. Approximately 150 metres from the post Reignforest began a strong run home down the outside running past the leader Sonic Quest (since won group races)at that point breaking his near fore canon, yet continued the race on 3 legs. Craig Newitt said he had the "race shot to pieces". A tragic end to a promising and valiant horse and which is reminded to me every year of my son's birthday December 17- Nick O'Brien
