In a major blow for the Hayes stable and connections, imported stayer Our Aqaleem (GB) fractured a shoulder during trackwork at Flemington and had to be put down. This followed the sudden loss of fellow imported stayer and stablemate Changingoftheguard, after a routine gelding operation.

A beautiful horse, I backed him first up and he fought his heart out to win at 20/1 with a big weight. He had never been out of a place. Heartbroken to hear that he broke down and was euthanised. He had suffered with fractures before so perhaps he was soft boned. RIP
