General Washington (AUS)
Chestnut gelding 2004 - 1/4/2008, by General Nediym ex Virginian Belle (NZ)
Trainer: Peter Moody
Owners: PG Moody, S Moody, Select Thoroughbreds No 1, M Dalton, B Dalton, IA Barnes, KD Anderson, The Smart Fensom's.
6 0-1-2 $5,550 Stakes AU
Trackwork
Maiden galloper General Washington broke down at the end of his morning gallop, he faltered and suffered serious injuries. He had to be euthanased, 1st of April, 2008.
Lovely photo of ”George” when he was a carefree yearling on agistment, playing with a blue rubber ball, which we like to think he took with him when he went!
Notes below from his owners/trainer.
"It is with the saddest news that we are informing you of the sudden loss of General Washington after a freak trackwork accident. It was unfortunately right at the end of his gallop that he faltered causing injuries that left the vets with no option but to humanly and understandably put him to sleep and send him to the big racetrack in the sky.
George, as he was affectionately known by all and clearly one of the most likeable & popular horses in the yard may have been no champ but perhaps we never got to see the best of him in races to come? He was genuine & honest in his races suggesting he enjoyed his racing and had a heart of gold to match, he will be sadly missed by all who ever had anything to do with him. Galloping solo this morning, I believe George may have finally felt like a winner as he looked good in his gallop and for once was in front with daylight second at the winning post……."
