In a major blow for the Hayes stable and connections, imported stayer Our Aqaleem (GB) fractured a shoulder during trackwork at Flemington and had to be put down. This followed the sudden loss of fellow imported stayer and stablemate Changingoftheguard, after a routine gelding operation.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres Unite and Excite was eased from the event. He was examined by the club¹s veterinary surgeon who reported the gelding had fractured a fetlock; he was humanely euthanased, 20^th of May 2010.

Approaching the 1400 metres Timtrek was eased out of the event. Timtrek was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon who reported the gelding had fractured a cannon bone; the horse was humanely euthanased, 20th of May 2010.

Maiden galloper Empire Flier (AUS) was retired from the race near the 300m mark after faltering badly. A subsequent examination revealed the gelding to have suffered a heart attack and he was euthanased on track, 13^th of May, 2010.

Four year old Royal Tee (AUS) veered sharply towards the outside rail while being eased down in the straight, and broke through the outside fence. He suffered a suspected heart attack and was euthanased on track, 9th of May 2010.

Seven year old Shoddy Juan (AUS) fell near the 300m mark. Post race vet examination revealed this gelding could not bear any weight on his off side fore leg. After examination it was concluded he had a fractured off side shoulder and he was euthanased on track, 8^th of May, 2010.

Post race vet examination revealed she broke down badly in the off hind. However, rather than being put down on track she was removed from the racetrack and euthanased during the night, 25th of April, 2010.
